The joyful day has arrived. It's now 6 am, and part of Diane's family escorts her to the Prep Room for surgery. Grandson Robbie, sister Elsie, husband Burton, and daughter Consuelo are less relaxed than Diane is about the upcoming surgery.

She's woozy, but Diane is comfortable. She has a naso-gastric (NG) tube draining her stomach, and is breathing oxygen through a tube in her nose. Her IV has been transferred to her shoulder, and she now has a catheter.

Diane is equipped with special air pumping boots that will keep her circulation going and prevent dangerous blood clots.

Close-up of the boots. Now Diane has two jobs: rest, and breathe deeply. Breathing deeply will help keep her from developing pneumonia. A respiratory therapist will visit to help her.
